I found out about the MySQL SHOW statements, and I’ve found out that they can be very usefull!

That why I will describe some of the usefull ways to use the SHOW commands in
combination with MySQL.

SHOW DATABASES
If you want to see a list of all the databases that are on your MySQL
server, you could use the following command:

SHOW DATABASES;

This should give you a list of all the databases that are on your MySQL server.

When you want to see a list of all the database with a certain name,
for example test, you can use the following command:

SHOW DATABASES LIKE '%test%';

Because of the LIKE statement this will show databases like `testking`
and `commercetest`.

SHOW TABLES
This option shows you all the tables that are in a certain database.

Use the following command to see all the tables that are in database `testking`:

SHOW TABLES FROM `testking`;

When you only want to see tables with a certain name, for example
user, you should use the following command:

SHOW TABLES FROM `testking` LIKE '%user%';

This statement will show tables like `users` and `userpermissions`.

TIP!
When you want to troubleshoot your database on open tables or checking
the performance, you can use the following command:

SHOW OPEN TABLES FROM `testking`;

This will give you additional information such as the amount of cached
and in-use copies of a table.

SHOW COLUMNS
If you want to get a list of all the columns that are in a table, you
can use the SHOW COLUMNS command:

USE `testking`;
SHOW COLUMNS FROM `userpermissions`;

This will return a list of all the columns in table `userpermissions`
of the `testking` database.

Here is also the possibility to use wildcards, so you can list only
certain columns:

USE `testking`;
SHOW COLUMNS FROM `userpermissions` LIKE '%admin%';

The above example will only show column names with the word admin in it.

TIP!
You can use the FULL parameter to also see the user privileges of the
user which you are login with in the list:

USE `testking`;
SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM `userpermissions`;

SHOW GRANTS
With the SHOW GRANTS command you can easily see which permissions a
user had on a database.

You can use the following statement to see the permissions of a certain user:

SHOW GRANTS FOR tkuser

‘tkuser’ is the database where we want to see the permissions of.
