I was surprised the way that Google is planning to use clean energy to ban global warming.
They have published three goals on their corporate blog:
Reduce demand by doing more with less
Google is planning to make a 5 million dollar investment to reduce energy use that will payback itself within only 2,5 years!
They also are trying to make their own datacenters energy efficient, which is a great success.
Google is also participating in the Climate Savers Computer Initiative which want to cut energy consumption by the equivalent of 10-20 coal-fired power plants by 2010.
Develop renewable energy that is cheaper than coal (RE<C)
Google is investing large amounts of money in projects which are developing ways how we can create energy that is cheaper than coal.
Because Google is withdrawing energy from the US powernet, the replacement of coal energy sources with cheaper and better ones by the US government will also affect the efficiency of the Google datacenters, because then they will use clean energy.
Electrify transportation and re-invent our electric grid
Google is running the RechargeIT project where they are developing ways on how to electrify the different forms of transportation.
Google itself has several Hybrid vehicles, such as the Toyota Prius.
I think it is good to see that Google is investing in solving the climate crisis, by helping the industry.
In the process of this developments they will stimulate investment, create jobs, empower consumers and, by the way, help address climate change
